went to harbourtown shopping centre with esther yesterday. there's that tendency to say harbourfront always. i'v been dying to go! wanted to see how it compares with perth's. it was not bad. but we didn't have time to see everything though. had dinner and we were facing the observation area cos HBT was near the airport. i read from some magazine that although the locals may think it's abit far, s'poreans wld gladly travel 15mins to get those discounts. haha. i only bought a pullover for 10bucks n slippers for 5. i was feeling rather happy, as always when i go shopping. but the day didn't end too well. we shopped till it was 9pm cos thurs was the only late night shopping day for suburbs. when we arrive at the bus stop, we discovered the last bus was at 6.45! it was kinda dark there. we had to walk to west beach rd to another bus stop, and we couldn't see any bus stops that were in sight, so we turned back halfway to check. turns out we were in the correct direction. but it was so ulu n dark and the horses by the road kinda made me nervous too. esther suggested walking along the main rd instead. i was so thankful that at least i wasnt alone. it was a long long way to the bus stop. i was too scared to think of exhaustion. i couldnt believe we actually walked that distance. i cldn't be more relieved when i saw the bus stop! then we began worrying when the bus was late. when it finally came, i had another wave of panic cos esther hailed for the bus and the driver actually didn't slow down! he actually didn't see us, but thank god he did in the end. it wld have been a nightmare if he didn't stop. i'm never ever gonna shop till this late again. went to school today to get some textbooks. gosh, they're so expensive. i have to constantly remind myself that it's an investment that i'll benefit from. but still, a little unwilling to buy them. managed to borrow 2 from the library. rushed to flentje only to find that there were many others waiting to enter the theatre too. then this lady told us the lecturer will be 5 min. after 20min, we were still standing outside the theatre. then everyone just got tired of waiting and left. as a result, i didn't start off with a very good impression of this lecturer cos the prelim lecture didn't happen on monday, and it didn't happen today either, for me at least. in the end i was lugging 6 textbooks home, my arms almost broke. now that i've got the books, i have tons & tons of reading to do. sigh. i so can't wait for uni life to begin.

O'week and preliminary lectures
Tuesday, February 20, 2007
went to some asian party at
paradise church centre on
cny's eve, which was a christian church. some parent at school invited my aunt & family. i figured why not, rather than stay home and have no celebration at all. had steamboat for two nights in a row after that, thanks to the fact that my aunt has some frens here. it's definitely much better than cny in perth last year. although it's still one of the most un-happening cny i ever had. and i left my purse at someone's house! as a result my uncle had to drive up so far so i could get it. as a result, i couldn't enjoy the first day of
O'week. esther got to eat free asian food and visit all the booths! my uncle took me to see the house which they've submitted an offer for. it's quite pretty, and looked longish from the front. we had lunch at
hungry jacks, after which i walked to school for one of the preliminary lectures. the lecturer didn't turn up, and i felt so cheated, cos that's like the main thing i went to school for(but he just apologised thru' email so that's ok) many local students started to leave at first. i must say when i stepped into the lecture theatre i was SO overwhelmed. bcos i nv experienced so many local students before, not in perth. the college i went to was so international, but i enjoyed it anw. after 20min or so, esther & i decided to leave. walked around for abit, and she filled in some blanks for her scavenger hunt. went to get my card activated and we slacked at
Mayo Cafe. surprise surprise! i met someone who studied in the same college as i did in perth. but i didn't know him. heh. he was esther's friend's friend. i accompanied esther & sowmya to this astro lecture they took as an elective. so envious that they can select electives! initially i cld too, but i only had ONE. then i changed a study pathway, so now i have none. oh wells.
today was a pretty ok day. in fact i'm feeling quite good about things today. my first prelim.lecture was for
Macroecons. as usual, lotsa aussie students. i have a feeling i'm gonna like this lecture alot. my lecturer's an interesting person. he told us his real name, which was in spanish and was like 20 syallabus long so i don't know if it's real anymore, and he said unless we could get his name right, we can't blame him for destroying our names by accident. i can't even say his name properly though its a short form & only 4 letters. he speaks with an american accent, which i found really easy to understand compared to the aussie accent. he held 3 passports!
paraguay, america, australia. and said he'd make a good terrorist, but quickly took that back cos he didn't want SWAT teams to come flying in. lol. he's funny, which is good, cos the last thing i'd want is for a boring lecturer to lull me to sleep. finally found out how to get to the
image© centre. felt so stupid when the person told me. collected some course materials and went shopping for some necessities in the city. i just love how a few steps out of school takes me to the city! i can do after school shopping real conveniently! but that means my bank will dry out faster too. =( i'm getting
tanner by the day. can't wait for the cold, but i haven't stock up on warm clothes. hope my remaining lecturers are interesting as well.

attended an enrolment advice session yesterday and followed my uncle to pick my little cousins up from school. saw a plane writing letters in the sky. so sweet. i almost forgot it was
Valentine's Day. before that we went to look at houses. the 1st one was like a cosy cottage, but needed a little renovation. the next one we went to was purely just to view it. it was really nice, kinda huge, and so was the price. plus there was gonna be an auction. maybe we could only put up like 3 or 4 fingers, much less a hand. after seeing so many houses, i began conjuring in my mind a future dream house i would love to live in. we drove up to the
mountains. i realised, when we were gradually going up slope, that the roads were still normal roads, not what i expected. there were ppl living on the slopes too. i would be pretty freaked out, but they got such a nice view anw. and they must be
LOADED. their houses are
HUMONGOUS. my aunt also pointed out a very stylish house to me, and its door alone costs 15K...i felt so deflated and so envious of those ppl and their big houses!!! and suddenly this need to earn big bucks! lol. but it's an even wilder dream to dream of living in such houses in singapore. i can't wait for
O'week which starts next week. i guess it's a noisier version of orientation? cos so far it's just talks and information sessions and stuff. there's gonna be breakfast and bbq lunch, globalized fashion parade, cinema on the lawns, and even
CNY celebrations! and alot more activities which i'm not sure stands for what. hope tmr's trip to victor harbour & wildlife park will be fun too. i don't even know if i want lessons to start or not.
it's time for lunch! time now is 12noon here. which reminds me i've been updating in singapore time still. i didn't even took a day to adapt. the day i arrived i slept at 11pm, which was abt 8.30pm in s'pore? when all the while i've been sleeping at 2, 3am at home. i found it funny that i was able to have breakfast at 8, when i shld still be slping. and i have my dinner at 6pm, which WAS my time for teabreaking. oh and the other day, when it was my first time taking the bus home, which can be rather confusing bcos some stops don't even tell u what buses stop here, and the stops are not very conspicuous btw. but the thing was, when alighting, u have to actually push the door open after the bus stops and this green light comes on. how cute is that. but i kept praying there will be other ppl alighting at my stop so i don't have to look like an idiot uncertain of how to open the door. sure enough there were many ppl getting off at my stop so lucky me. but of course, the other newer, air-conditioned buses have driver operated doors.

today's my 5th day in adelaide! everything was so chaotic when i had to leave so i didn't have time to bid my goodbyes properly. i only managed sms-ed some ppl at the last minute=( i booked a flight long long time ago for the 6th of Feb, but by 5th feb my visa wasn't ready, so i cancelled the flight and started telling friends i'm not leaving yet. then, on the morning of 6th Feb, my panicky mother woke me up at around 10am and said my visa was approved. so that afternoon i went down to the travel agency, and by pure accident, discovered there was a flight leaving that very evening, though the person told us there was no more flights until donno when. so i booked the flight, went home, grabbed my bags & luggage and left for the airport. my mom had to leave early, together with my sis, aunt & uncle, and when it was time for me to check in, only JSH were accompanying me :) we kept snapping photos and that uncle didn't know how to use a camera, our heads were gone!!! after i went in, i looked at the big clock and realised i was late! it was so scary, i kept thinking: "what if i missed my flight???" the worse thing was, my gate was at the very end, and my bags were so darn heavy, the walk there was like never ending. i almost died. luckily i managed to reach in time, just before the gates closed. the staff even asked me if i was ms law. so embarrassing. flew to Perth first to grab my staff and settled my accounts. landing was abit rocky, and the guy bside me kept cursing under his breath and held onto the seat in front of him so tightly. i found my legs trembling uncontrollably after the plane landed, but i think i still managed a straight face, so nobody knew i was so scared i almost peed in my pants. haha. left perth and arrived in adelaide on the 8th. finally mangaed to see my adorable cousin!!!! he was so curious and loved coming into my room. he would sit on the bed, grabbed everyone of my stuff and trampled over my things and tried to destroy them without himself knowing it. i was kept pretty busy prying his fingers off things and preventing him from falling. he must have knocked his head a million times before. when for a talk n campus tour on friday and went to glenelg beach trip on sat. it was so intimidating, cos everyone was doing Year2 or Masters etc., and nobody seemed to be in Year1, much less studying the same program as i was. but so far i've met 2 singaporeans, which is quite rare. now i'm looking forward to the victor harbour trip and we're going to the wildlife park as well! here's some photos:
i always miss my mom's cooking most~
chocolate fondue...YUM!
it'll be a long time before we get to do this again...
hj's H3 chem.
it was extremly windy, this is the only photo in which i don't look like i have short hair.

wow!! it's been super long since we've had a sleepover! i just miss those times, alot. well, the girls came over to my place on sat evening. my mom cooked dinner and we watched a movie, drank, and watched guess(x3), and laughed together, something which felt really good when done with them. =) shioks, jb and jen were tired from their daytime activities and they fell aslp rather quickly. then hj, hm n i went to my room. hj, known as the pig amongst us, fell aslp too, leaving hm n i. we started youtubing and watched the nxt season of
ANTM. it was fun =D the both of us slept at abt 5! at one point jen came into the room cos i think her body must be aching from crouching into a ball. i wonder how she can fall aslp like that, must be too tired. i think hm & i only had like 4 hrs of slp and we woke up at abt the same time as everyone else. but i was still as energetic as ever. we just squeezed onto the couch and watched TV, had lunch and took lots of photos. and i mean
LOTS. cos it was so hard to get it right. we had
chocolate fondue! it was so yum! with grapes, dragonfruit, apple, and marshmallows! we actually took photos of all that we ate n drank, for keepsakes. sadly, time passes really quickly and half the day was gone when they went back. it's gonna be a
loooonnggg time before we get to do this again.
i had dinner with zhili & jul just now, more like accompanying them, cause i didn't eat. afterwhich we went to zhili's hse for awhile and she introduced to us all the slimming gadgets that were in her hse, and we got to try them. it was kinda funny, n very ticklish. lol. and then there was one that sent a current thru' your body but it felt like stronger pins n needles. i think julia & i didn't like that one, it was quite terrifying. haha. then we had a long long chat at jul's hse. it was super
nice! we talked about old times, when we really had alot fun, and i realised that i still remembered every single detail, but it's just being stored at the back of my head. omg. i just wished i was staying.
